Last night, Amber Lilyestrom Skyped me into the Sport Management Class she teaches at New Hampshire. I was presenting on the evolution and effect of Social Media on your personal brand. It was only fitting that each week Amber has one of the students as the Class Tweeter. Last night was Molly Claire using the class tag #AmbersArmy so people outside of the class were checking in as well.
I talked about things all over the board, from some of the lessons I learned from my experiences to marketing yourself on Twitter and beyond. After class, one student (@PalumboSteven) tweeted:
Skyping with Tracie Hitz= very elaborate responses for a great AmbersArmy ponder session. Happy fun Tuesday night wit Tracie ;) #AmbersArmy
“Elaborate” was a nice way of saying that I turned a simple question into numerous examples. I like to give real life experiences when people ask me something rather than just saying generic things like, “work really hard”, “be careful what you tweet”, etc. Some of the things Molly Claire and Amber tweeted from my presentation are below, which I thought posting them shows what they took away from the night rather than me blogging about what I think they took away:
“Don’t be afraid to fail.” Being inspired by @TracieHitz #ambersarmy
“Twitter and Facebook give you an opportunity to know who your fans are and they end up marketing for you.” @TracieHitz #ambersarmy
“You need to know when to push forward and when to let go, if it’s not a good idea, cut it& try to something else” @TracieHitz #AmbersArmy
@TracieHitz - Be careful what you tweet - the job search goes hand in hand with social activities on social media. #AmbersArmy
For @TracieHitz, Facebook is fun and Twitter is professional. #ambersarmy
“Say yes to every opportunity even if it’s not something you think you necessarily want to do.” @TracieHitz #AmbersArmy
#AmbersArmy firing questions at @TracieHitz - “tell us about your experience w/ the Bears & the injury sustained at the Chicago Fire game”
@TracieHitz emphasizes the importance of research in finding what will have greatest impact on mktg plans #AmbersArmy
“whoever you are when nobody is watching is really who you should be all the time” @TracieHitz #ambersarmy
@TracieHitz tells #AmbersArmy to focus and prioritize when setting goals and deciding what is most important - set deadlines!
I liked everything about this experience. A great group that embraced the technology and participated despite being thousands of miles apart. Amber’s attention to detail when teaching a class was great as she makes sure they live what she’s teaching with the live tweeting and the tweet break during class. I learn more from stories and hands-on experience so Amber’s class is perfect for me and seemed perfect for her students.
